Namespace unification is a force multiplier for the entire operating system. Yet achieving it has been frustrated by a number of deep technical barriers. We will discuss how Reiser4 has addressed the storage layer aspect of the problem, and the prospects for future semantic enhancements now that we have a storage layer able to support them.
