PostgreSQL 8.0 |

There might be few who don’t know MySQL, the most popular open source database that successfully replaces commercial competitors in many environments, both reducing the cost of ownership and offering a platform for development of simple applications, exploiting database functionality. The basic functionality offered by a simple database is often insufficient, and the question of what to choose has always been not easy to answer, unless either MSSQL, DB2 or Oracle are mentioned in the answer. PostgreSQL, surprisingly, has been around for well over a
decade, offering a viable alternative to the aforementioned, yet despite being worthy of consideration, it is still relatively unknown.
