Advantages of FS for European Economy |
, Free Software Foundation Europe |
|
Free Software, sometimes called "Open Source", is software that brings to all of its users a few fundamental rights, according to copyright law. The main focus of the Free Software Foundations is in computer programs and that's the meaning of "software" I use in this context. some groups use the same word to refer to all kinds of digital information: both programs and data, both music and literature.
Unfortunately, to be commercial exploited, the software needs new business models. The proprietary model is new, as there was no software market before it, but it doesn't scale because it depends on monopolistic revenues. Even if we ignored the rights of software users, European companies shouldn't follow the proprietary model, which is already saturated. |
